When Helen cures the King of France of an ailment that has confounded every other doctor, he grants her lifetime wish: the marital hand of the aristocratic courtier Bertram. However, Bertram proves a reluctant husband and immediately heads off to war, leaving Helen with a seemingly impossible riddle to solve in order to seal their marriage.

Helena loves Bertram, but he's of noble birth, while she's just a doctor's daughter. But Bertram is at the court of the King of France, who is ill, and Helena has a remedy that might cure him and win her the right to marry Bertram. But does Bertram want to marry her?

The film’s protagonist, P. Pūras, has dedicated his life to working diligently at the Žiežmariai clinic. He is not a doctor, yet the institution’s daily operations would be unimaginable without him—he is a jack-of-all-trades: driver, electrician, plumber. He performs every task willingly and joyfully, never engaging in conflict with others or himself, never questioning whether helping someone will bring him any benefit. He simply works, and that brings him satisfaction. Šablevičius portrays a man who maintains his optimism and inner clarity in any situation.

A new modern communist youth shoe store The shoe house is opening in a city. School graduates headed by Tamara Berezina are sent there on a business trip for work. Now all kind of problems and defects of modern services sector are in front of them. And Tamara with her team just cant put up with one of these defects and start the fight. The fact is that the factory situated in the city floods their store with inferior shoes, in chase of going over the quota. With help of mass media in the face of young journalist, fellows are trying to change the existing state of things.

A talented wedding photographer, at a crossroads with his own marriage, reflects on tales of past clients and the hope, adversity and romance that holy matrimony brings. Starring as the photographer, football great Joe Namath narrates the unconventional tales of three couples: Judd Hirsch and Melinda Dillon as a twosome who have married and divorced multiple times and who are on the verge of repeating their mistake; an anxious newlywed who prefers the "freedom" that living together allows; and Jack Albertson as an aging comedian who wants to marry his much younger secretary despite the disapproval of his son.

Low-born Helena is convinced that she and the high-born Bertram are meant to be. Bertram does not, so he runs off to fight in the Italian wars with his "#bff" Parolles, where he meets Diana. The lopsided love triangle all comes crashing down when the two women meet and devise a diabolical plan.
